Changing Identity
Canada is a very diverse country consisting of many different regions. Unfortunately, during the time span from 1945-2000, many regions felt ignored. For example, Northern Canada has always felt as though they have been often ignored and neglected. Western Canada also thought that there was to much attention put into Central Canada and finally, Atlantic Canada had the lowest employment rates and development and have thought that the government has not done enough for them. However, on a more extensive note, after World War 1, the French Canadians were very unsatisfied with their relations to the rest of Canada. This eventually led to many French-Canadians wanting to form their own nation, away from Canada. Prime Minister decided he would change the countries flag, into something that looked less British. Unfortunately this did not fix the problem. By 1995, Quebec was almost successful in separation from Canada. Put into perspective, this was an eye opener to Canada. Still to this day, being a French-Canadian country has been an issue to maintain in Canada.
After World War 2, Canada's identity shifted to quite a degree. However, during this time we became known as a peaceful nation. This is due to the fact that we have not directly started any conflicts with the rest of the world and that is because people in Canada are generally happy about things like our living standards, health care, job opportunities and so on. All in all, Canada is a pretty safe place to live and raise a family, which people look for; Canada has formed a great reputation. Canada's identity today will continue to grow in value and be something that we should remain proud of.
